Information

The EMDR 2.0 Complete Training brings together the Workshop EMDR 2.0 Basic Training (day 1), the Workshop EMDR 2.0 Special Techniques (day 2) and the EMDR 2.0 Manual – Digital Edition, including all necessary protocols. The training is intended for therapists who have at least taken an EMDR basic course.

Day 1: Workshop EMDR 2.0 Basic Training

EMDR therapy prospers in a climate that embraces innovation while insisting on research to substantiate new findings. EMDR 2.0 is grounded in the standard EMDR protocol, but incorporates several adjustments in its application. These refinements are informed by clinical experience with clients suffering from complex PTSD, as well as research on working memory theory and the effects of working memory–taxing tasks on traumatic memories. The central premise is that when a client is highly motivated, the memory is sufficiently activated, and working memory is strongly taxed, the effectiveness and efficiency of EMDR therapy are enhanced.

The purpose of this training is to provide participants with renewed inspiration for treating clients with chronic and severe PTSD and/or significant comorbid psychopathology—particularly those with high levels of anxiety and dissociation, and for whom standard approaches have produced limited results. The training showcases new EMDR applications, ranging from modality-specific working memory–taxing methods to techniques aimed at destabilizing traumatic memories, and includes video demonstrations from clinical practice to support learning and application.

Day 2: Workshop EMDR 2.0 Special Techniques

EMD bomb, Flash 1.0, Titration Techniques, Blind to therapist, Flashforward and Mental Video Check

In this workshop, Ad de Jongh, PhD, and Suzy Matthijssen, PhD, will present how innovative EMDR 2.0 techniques can be applied to effectively treat a wide range of mental health conditions, including Complex PTSD.

A central theme will be how to address deeply ingrained avoidance patterns in patients who are too fearful or hesitant to begin trauma-focused therapy. Through extensive, step-by-step demonstrations, the presenters will show how to apply techniques such as the EMD Bomb, the Blind to Therapist mode for working with shame-laden memories, the original Flash technique (Flash 1.0), and titration techniques designed to keep processing within the patient’s window of tolerance. These applications will be demonstrated for both face-to-face and online EMDR therapy.

Among all EMDR strategies, the Flashforward technique stands out as one of the most powerful, with its effectiveness strongly supported by scientific evidence. In this workshop, participants will learn how to integrate the Flashforward method with the Mental Video Check, an indispensable tool in the treatment of anxiety disorders with EMDR therapy.

Finally, special attention will be given to adapting these EMDR 2.0 techniques for patients with complex trauma histories, including those prone to dissociation, ensuring safe and effective treatment.
